Why Restorative Health and Wellness Is Different — And What 24 Weeks of Real Treatment Actually Looks Like
By Rebekah Presley, FNP-C · Restorative Health and Wellness, Broken Arrow, OK
If you have spent any time looking for hormone care in the Broken Arrow area, you have probably noticed that the options fall into two categories: a conventional primary care or OB/GYN office that offers a standard prescription and a follow-up in six months, or a med spa that will put you on a protocol without much testing and send you home with a bag of supplements.
Neither of those is what we do.
Restorative Health and Wellness was built around a different premise: that most of what women in their 30s, 40s, and 50s are experiencing — the fatigue, the weight gain, the brain fog, the sleep disruption, the pain, the mood changes — is not a mystery. It is a set of interconnected physiological problems that have identifiable causes and, in most cases, real solutions. The work is finding them.
This post explains how we approach that work differently, and what our patients actually experience as their bodies respond over the course of six months of treatment.
What makes us different from a conventional practice
A conventional appointment is typically 15 minutes. The provider reviews your chief complaint, orders a basic metabolic panel and a TSH, and if everything falls within the standard reference range, you are told you are fine. If you push back — if you say you are not fine, that you are exhausted and gaining weight and cannot sleep — you may leave with an antidepressant or a referral to a specialist who will run the same labs and reach the same conclusion.
We do not use standard reference ranges as the endpoint of the conversation. We use them as a starting point. There is a meaningful difference between a TSH of 0.5 and a TSH of 4.8 — both technically "normal" — and a patient at 4.8 who is exhausted, cold, and gaining weight deserves a more complete answer than "your thyroid is fine."
We run comprehensive panels that most conventional offices do not order: free T3 and reverse T3 alongside TSH and free T4, a full sex hormone panel including DHEA-S and SHBG, fasting insulin alongside glucose and HbA1c, a full lipid panel with particle size, inflammatory markers, micronutrient levels, and — when the clinical picture calls for it — comprehensive GI testing and genetic panels. We are looking for the actual drivers of your symptoms, not just the absence of a diagnosable disease.
What makes us different from a med spa or hormone clinic
The hormone optimization industry has grown rapidly, and not all of it is practicing good medicine. There are clinics that will put you on testosterone or estrogen based on a symptom questionnaire and a single lab draw, without evaluating your thyroid, your insulin, your gut, or your adrenal function. There are providers who prescribe the same protocol to every patient because it is efficient, not because it is individualized.
We do not operate that way. Every patient at Restorative Health and Wellness gets a treatment plan built around their specific lab findings, their history, and their goals. If your labs show that your fatigue is driven primarily by insulin resistance and subclinical hypothyroidism rather than estrogen deficiency, we address those first — because putting you on BHRT without correcting the metabolic dysfunction underneath it will produce incomplete results.
We also do not stop at hormones. We address the gut, because a compromised gut microbiome directly affects how your body metabolizes and responds to hormones. We address insulin resistance, because it amplifies every other hormonal imbalance. We address thyroid function comprehensively, not just with a TSH. And we monitor — with follow-up labs and visits built into the program — so that we are adjusting your protocol based on how your body is actually responding, not just how it responded at the start.
What the Repair & Rebalance program actually looks like
Our primary treatment program is a structured 24-week protocol. It is not a subscription to a hormone prescription. It is a comprehensive correction of the physiological systems that are driving your symptoms — hormones, gut, thyroid, and metabolic function — with built-in monitoring and adjustment throughout.
Here is what our patients typically experience, week by week.
Weeks 1–4: The first signs that something is changing
The earliest improvements are usually in sleep and stress response. Women who have been waking at 2 or 3 a.m. for months start sleeping through more consistently. The edge comes off — the low-grade anxiety and irritability that had become their baseline begins to soften. Hot flashes may decrease in frequency or intensity, though this varies considerably by patient.
These early changes are often subtle enough that patients are not sure whether they are real. They are. They reflect the initial stabilization of progesterone and estrogen levels, which directly affect GABA receptor activity, cortisol regulation, and thermoregulation. The body is beginning to recalibrate.
Weeks 5–8: Pain starts to lift
By the second month, many patients begin reporting reductions in musculoskeletal pain — low back, hip, and pelvic discomfort that they had attributed to aging, sitting too much, or just the way things were now. This is one of the findings that surprises patients most, because they did not come in for pain. They came in for fatigue or mood or weight. The pain relief is a consequence of correcting the underlying hormonal and inflammatory drivers, not a separate treatment.
Estrogen plays a direct role in musculoskeletal health — it supports collagen synthesis, joint lubrication, and the integrity of connective tissue. When estrogen is deficient, joints become more vulnerable to inflammation and pain. As levels normalize, many patients notice a meaningful reduction in the chronic aching they had stopped mentioning because they assumed nothing could be done about it.
Libido and energy also begin to improve in this window. Testosterone correction — which we address in women as well as men — contributes to both. Patients describe having more initiative, more interest in their lives, and more physical energy to act on it.
Weeks 9–12: Starting to feel like yourself again
This is the phase patients most often describe as the turning point. By the third month, the cumulative effect of corrected hormones, improved gut function, and reduced systemic inflammation begins to produce a qualitative shift that is harder to attribute to any single change. Patients say they feel more like themselves. They are present in conversations. They are not white-knuckling through the afternoon. They are making decisions with more clarity and less second-guessing.
Cognitive function — memory, word retrieval, the ability to hold a train of thought — often improves noticeably in this window. Estrogen and testosterone both have direct effects on neurological function, and as levels stabilize, the brain fog that many women had accepted as a permanent feature of their 40s begins to clear.
Weeks 13–20: The afternoon nap becomes optional
One of the most consistent markers of meaningful recovery is what happens to the afternoon energy crash. For many of our patients, the 2 p.m. collapse had been a fixture of their lives for years — managed with caffeine, sugar, or simply pushing through. By weeks 13 to 20, that crash typically disappears. Not because they are forcing themselves through it, but because the physiological need for it is gone.
This reflects the correction of insulin resistance, adrenal dysregulation, and thyroid function working together. When blood sugar is stable, cortisol is appropriately regulated, and thyroid hormone is converting efficiently, the body does not hit a wall in the afternoon. Energy becomes more even across the day.
Patients also begin to have the energy to exercise — not as a discipline they are forcing themselves to maintain, but because they actually want to move. This is a meaningful shift. Exercise accelerates the metabolic improvements we are working toward, and when patients have the energy to engage with it, the results compound.
Week 24: The before-and-after moment
At the end of the 24-week program, we run a full repeat lab panel and a comprehensive follow-up visit. The numbers tell part of the story — improved insulin sensitivity, normalized thyroid markers, corrected hormone levels, reduced inflammatory markers. But the part that matters most to patients is harder to capture in a lab value.
The most common thing we hear at the 24-week visit is some version of: I cannot believe I functioned the way I was functioning. I did not realize how bad it had gotten until I felt this way again.
Women who came in exhausted, in pain, and disconnected from their own lives describe feeling like better mothers, better partners, better professionals. They have energy to be present with their families. They have the physical capacity to do the things they want to do. They are not just surviving their days — they are engaged in them.
That is not a marketing claim. It is what happens when you actually fix the underlying physiology instead of managing symptoms indefinitely.
Who this is for
The Repair & Rebalance program is designed for women who are done with being told their labs are normal when they know something is wrong. It is for women who have tried the conventional route and found it insufficient. It is for women who are willing to do the work — the testing, the follow-up, the dietary and lifestyle adjustments that support the clinical interventions — because they understand that real recovery requires more than a prescription.
It is not for everyone. If you are looking for a quick fix or a single prescription, we are probably not the right fit. But if you are ready to find out what is actually driving how you feel and address it systematically, we would like to talk.
Where to start
The first step is a complimentary Clarity Call — a 10-minute conversation to make sure we are a good fit before you invest any time or money. If it makes sense to move forward, the next step is a Precision Consult: a comprehensive two-part evaluation that reviews your history, your symptoms, and your prior labs, then orders a targeted panel designed to identify the root causes of what you are experiencing.
